Coupling of high-quality-factor optical resonators
We improve theoretically and experimentally the problem of the coupling between a high Q-factor resonator and its external coupler. We have observed oscillations of ringing induced by the sweeping of the excitation frequency of an active micro sphere. Thanks to this approach, quality factor of an optical resonator was measured and we obtained Q = 5.8×10.

High Quality Factor Lamb Wave Resonators by Jie Zou Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences University of California, Berkeley Professor Albert P. Pisano, Chair The small-in-size and CMOS compatible micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) resonators are likely to be the driving core of a new generation of devices such as radio frequency (RF) filters and timing references...
متن کاملNegative group velocity and group delay in left-handed media.
The dynamics of wave propagation in media with negative index of refraction is analyzed through analytical calculations, simulations, and experiments. Using a free space setup, the transmission characteristics of two split ring resonator and strip wire left-handed media (LHM), designed for operation at K -band frequencies (18-26 GHz), are measured. The first LHM, which is 3 unit cells long in t...
متن کاملQuality Factor Enhancement of Optical Channel Drop Filters Based on Photonic Crystal Ring Resonators
In this paper, a channel drop ring resonator filter based on two dimensional photonic crystal is proposed which is suitable for all optical communication systems. The multilayer of silicon rods in the center of resonant ring enables one to adjust resonant wavelength of the ring and enhance power coupling efficiency between ring and waveguide. Refractive index and radius of multilayer rods insid...
متن کاملArchitecture for Integrated Mems Resonators Quality Factor Measurement
In this paper, an architecture designed for electrical measurement of the quality factor of MEMS resonators is proposed. An estimation of the measurement performance is made using PSPICE simulations taking into account the component's non-idealities. An error on the measured Q value of only several percent is achievable, at a small integration cost, for sufficiently high quality factor values (...
